The four models in the series (650 SSM, 750 SSM, 850 SSM or 950 SSM) fit in the large to extra large physical size category designed for surf, rock and offshore boat fishing. SSM also make an excellent option for places such as break walls and sea walls.
In terms of beach and rock fishing, the Spinfisher 650 SSM reel will suit fishing rods from 8 feet through to 12 feet. The 750 SSM or 850 SSM will best suit beach or rock rods 10ft-15ft in length, and the 950 SSM makes an excellent choice for 12ft-15ft surf rods. Ideally, we recommend picking a rock or surf fishing rod with a line rating above 8-10kg through to 24kg to match.
Offshore boat anglers can use any length of rod between 6ft-7ft 6 inches with ratings above 10kg. Uglystik rods for boat fishing make an excellent choice as SSM reels, built solidly, do have thick reel feet which may not fit into some modern Shimano or Daiwa brand rods.
